2012 Hyundai Elantra / Should I keep using normal oil when I go change it or should I use synthetic?
Asked by Peter M, 1 year ago
I have a 2012 Elantra and need to do my 7th oil change. I recently started rideshare driving (Uber) and so am putting a few extra miles on the car. A lot of stops and go highway driving, etc. My question is should I keep using normal oil when I go change it or should I use synthetic or some kind of synthetic blend? I live in Austin TX so it gets pretty hot here in summer.

Thanks!

I am doing 6K OCI, and I am using synthetic b/c I want to use 0W20 oil, and that is only available in Synthetic. And as mentioned, Synthetic is better oil and just slightly more expensive (depending on how you buy it).

If you are doing 7500-mile OCI's, I'd recommend synthetic.

Synthetic is ideal. It holds up far better to the fuel dilution that happens on direct injection motors. I live in Tampa and especially in the summer, the synthetic holds up far better.

Try to run a 5w30 in summer instead of the 5w20 recommended. The fuel dilution causes the 5w30 to act more like a lighter weight oil.
